Scope and Content |
Series consists of books detailing the sale of furs by the Hudson's Bay Company. Three systems of recording the sale of furs, from three different eras, are represented in this series: fur sale books (1736-1810), bills of parcels (1858-1903) and buyers' books (1903-1923). The records contain information on fur types, quantities, and prices, as well as on individuals and firms who bought HBC furs. Records are arranged according to record type, and chronologically within each type. |

Custodial History |
The Archives Department of the Hudson's Bay Company was created in London in the 1920s. The Archives Department had custody of the records until they were transferred on deposit to the Archives of Manitoba in 1974, according to the 1973 Agreement between the HBC and the Province of Manitoba. In 1994, the HBC donated the records to the Province to be maintained permanently by the Archives of Manitoba. |
