Scope and Content

Series consists of records documenting the Hudson's Bay Company's London staff's salaries and service with the company. These records contain information relating to employees working in all departments, including: administration; the general office; the buying office; the fur department; the transfer department; warehouses; archives; and HBC Fur Sales Ltd., as well as security and maintenance staff.

The Hudson's Bay Company London Staff Salaries and Records sheets are divided into staff that left service prior to 1961 and staff that left between 1961 and 1972. The sheets are arranged alphabetically within each of these groups and include information about each London staff member such as: name, date of appointment, date left service, reason for leaving, position with HBC, annual salary, bonuses and increases, birth date, marital status, and pension details.

The salary books record information about HBC's London staff, including employees' names, annual salaries, weekly wages, and deductions such as taxes, as well as directors' fees and pensions paid. Information is arranged chronologically within each volume and further organized by department. The Insurance Salaries Book is similar to the other salary books, but also includes information about Second World War service pay and allowances, war bonuses, and insurance.
