Scope and Content 

 

Series contains invoices of furs shipped by the Council of the Northern Department to the Governor and Committee via York Factory. The furs were consigned to the secretary of the Governer and Committee. The invoices list the number and types of furs per bale and are listed by district. The invoices also state the names of the ship and its master.

 

Restrictions on Access 

 

Some original records have been withdrawn. These records must be viewed on microfilm or through the listings database when digital copies are available.

Custodial History 

 

The Archives Department of the Hudson's Bay Company was created in London in the 1920s. The Archives Department had custody of the records until they were transferred on deposit to the Archives of Manitoba in 1974, according to the 1973 Agreement between the HBC and the Province of Manitoba. In 1994, the HBC donated the records to the Province to be maintained permanently by the Archives of Manitoba.
