Scope and Content 

 

Fonds consists of correspondence, resolutions and minutes of the Great War Veterans Association and the Returned Soldiers Loyalist Association created during and after the Winnipeg General Strike in 1919; and kept by Frederick George Thompson.

Fonds also includes copies of correspondence to and from Robert Boyd (R. B.) Russell mainly pertaining to the organizing of One Big Union (OBU). These were given to Thompson following the raid on the Labor (Labour) Temple in 1919.

Fonds also includes a pamphlet containing a poem written in Ukrainian entitled "The History of a Foolish Cow" published by Robotchyj Narod in 1917 and an issue of "Leslie's Weekly" from 21 June 1919 which includes a photographic article on the Winnipeg General Strike.

Fonds also includes articles and accompanying correspondence written by Thompson about the Winnipeg General Strike in 1969, the year of the fiftieth anniversary.

 

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch 

 

Frederick George Thompson (1886-1972) was a Winnipeg lawyer and municipal politician who served in the First World War and organized anti-strike veterans during the Winnipeg General Strike in 1919.
