Scope and Content 

 

Fonds consists of a small number of articles and clippings documenting the Cutty Sark Club, the Hudson Bay Route and the Winnipeg General Strike.

Fonds also consists of sixteen photographs of Charles Gray including a photograph of him addressing a crowd during the Winnipeg General Strike on 7 June 1919 and photographs of trips to northern Manitoba including The Pas, Flin Flon and English Brook.

Fonds also includes photocopies of exhibits from the Winnipeg General Strike trials, R v. Russell, R. v. Ivens et al and/or R. v. Dixon, which were copied from the Charles F. Gray fonds at Library and Archives Canada.

 

Administrative History or Biographical Sketch 

 

Charles F. Gray (1879-1954) was an engineer, prospector and politician and was mayor of Winnipeg from 1919 to 1920.

Custodial History 

 

Records were donated to the Archives of Manitoba by Avis Walton, Charles Gray's daughter in 1972 and 1973.
Copies of exhibits from the Charles F. Gray fonds at Library and Archives Canada were given to the Archives of Manitoba from the (then) Public Archives of Canada in 1973.
