Fonds consists primarily of correspondence written to Sarah Margaret "Maggie" Francis and her daughter Emily Henrietta "Etta" by her three sons who were serving in the First World War, Frederick Russell Francis, Charles Ross Francis and Herbert Winfield Francis. The letters were written from various places in Canada, England and France from 1916 to 1918. Fonds also includes correspondence from friends and relatives during the same period, 1916 to 1918, newspaper clippings related to the First World War, some sketches, and correspondence, diaries and other items of Maggie's son Charles from 1906 to 1919 and 1938. |

Sarah Margaret "Maggie" Francis (1856-1937) was the daughter of Rev. John Black and Henrietta Ross Black who married Frederick H.
