Archibald McDonald, Jr. (1836-1915) was born on 16 February 1836 in Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire, Scotland. He entered the service of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1854 as an apprentice clerk at Shoal River in the Swan River District. His entire career was spent at various posts in this district, including Fort Pelly, Fort Qu'Appelle, Little Touchwood Hills, Manitoba House and Fort Ellice. In 1869 he was appointed chief trader, and in 1879 he was appointed chief factor. After spending the last thirty-two years of his career at Fort Qu'Appelle, McDonald retired from the HBC in 1911. McDonald married Helen (Ellen) Inkster in 1863 and together they had at least four sons and two daughters. He died at Fort Qu'Appelle on 6 January 1915. |
