Scope and Content |

Series consists of annual statements of furs imported into Britain. The records contain lists of shipments noting the origin and quantity of each type of fur or other product imported. From 1801, the dates of forthcoming auctions are also given. The lists, orginally entitled "Cargoes of the Hudson's Bay Company's Ships" and later "Importations of the Hudson's Bay Company," were prepared by the HBC's fur brokers. Some of the lists have annotations giving yearly comparisons. Records are arranged chronologically. |

The Archives Department of the Hudson's Bay Company was created in London in the 1920s. The Archives Department had custody of the records until they were transferred on deposit to the Archives of Manitoba in 1974, according to the 1973 Agreement between the HBC and the Province of Manitoba. In 1994, the HBC donated the records to the Province to be maintained permanently by the Archives of Manitoba. |
