Administrative History or Biographical Sketch 


Henry Hulse Berens (1804-1883) was governor of the Hudson's Bay Company from 1858 to 1863 and a director of the Bank of England from 1849 to 1880.

Custodial History 


Records were left by Henry Hulse Berens with the Hudson's Bay Company, and were given to the Archives Department after 1923. The Archives Department had custody of the records until they were transferred on deposit to the Archives of Manitoba in 1974, according to the 1973 Agreement between the HBC and the Province of Manitoba. In 1994, the HBC donated the records to the Province to be maintained permanently by the Archives of Manitoba.
